The tiles in the standard tile series, are glazed using machine made Italian terra cotta biscuits in various sizes, thicknesses and shapes. These biscuits may also be cut to size prior to glazing for special orders. Larger sizes will appear in thicker formats to prevent warping and unevenness during the firing process. Thicknesses range from about 5/16" to about 5/8", depending on the size and the particular glaze color. The glazes, themselves, vary as much as 3/16" in thickness. This can make a difference in the number of tiles shipped per box and also in the laying and leveling of the tile, especially when blending the colors and sizes together in artistic renditions.
